At World City Center we believe that learning happens everywhere. One does not need a classroom to discover something new or to share knowledge of the world. So we utilize every inch of our environment for teaching and engaging with the children. It is not uncommon to see circle time being conducted on an outdoor rug, or for students to be journaling in the middle of our vegetable garden. Our children spend a great majority of their time outside, weather permitting. The outdoor learning environment enhances their academic knowledge through hands-on centers and free exploration of the space but also provides invaluable opportunities for the children to practice their problem solving and social skills.

The World City Center garden is a main focal point in our outdoor learning environment. Children are involved in all aspects of caring for the gardening, from preparing the soil and planting, to weeding and harvesting. Every season we invite parents and our extended community to join us for our collaborative planting day. Everyone lends a hand and makes for easy work. The garden is a natural science lab where the children learn about the lifecycle of plants, bugs, dirt and more. They engage in regular dramatic play in our “mud kitchen” and love setting out WCC Farmers Market goods for their parents on harvest days.
