Our Philosophy

At World City Center, it is our goal to encourage a love of learning in children by thoughtfully designing and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that encourage children to ask questions, to ponder, to experiment, to dissect and to explore their world on a daily basis. We utilize constructivist theory and best practices from progressive curriculums like Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Waldorf, to inform our curriculum decisions and to guide our practice.

We believe that the purpose of education is to prepare children for lifetime of learning. Children need to be encouraged and empowered through education that is purposeful and meaningful to them. They need to be motivated by education to want to learn, to ask questions and to use critical skills to problem solve. Our goals for children are that they are whole and happy and that they develop positive social emotional development. Secondly, we want them to experience developmentally appropriate play-based learning and social experiences that provide a beneficial foundation for future learning. We believe that children learn best through play and by making their own meaning of their learning, by doing and experiencing. Lastly, we want to provide exposure of cultures far and wide, empowering global citizens who create, inspire, challenge, question and hold dear all people, all cultures and
all languages.

Learn more about the components of our philosophy:

Play

Play is at the heart of everything that we do. Our curriculum is child-led and always hands-on. Everyone at WCC is invited to play–children, teachers, parents and our extended community!

Dual Language

Our Dual Language environment builds stronger brains and world savvy kids. Studies show that children that are exposed to multiple languages under the age of 7 benefit in many ways.

Learning Garden

Whole foods mean whole children. The garden is the heart of our outdoor play space and also provides organic fare for our snacks and our “Farmer’s Market.”.

Our environment

We believe the classroom is the third teacher. Our school is Reggio Emilia inspired, integrating soft tones with pops of color and natural elements from the great
outdoors.

Our Families

Our families are the backbone of our school community. Our parents and “the village” are always encouraged to get involved. Whether it is reading a story during circle time or helping in the garden, we all play a part in the learning at WCC.

Community Events

We encourage our families to participate in our school community events and cultural celebrations. We also invite members from our surrounding community and guest artists to come in and share their gifts with the children.
